Mister Cartoon

What an unexpected and fun night Wednesday turned out to be! (Note to self though: always read the invite before you agree to go somewhere). If I had done so, I may have shied away from the bohemian vibe of my outfit and gone with something 'else' to fit in a bit more haha. Oh well,  it's always good to
step out of your element...

So, a friend of a friend works for Mark Machado, better known as Mr. Cartoon, who is a well known and respected tattoo artist and graffiti artist based here in L.A. I was impressed to learn that Machado designed the logo for Cypress Hill, and has tattooed celebs and musicians such as Dre, 50 Cent,  Eminem, Justin Timberlake, BeyoncĂ© Knowles and Snoop Dogg...to name just a few. (He also has a clothing line Joker Brand and has collaborated with companies like Nike, Diesel and Microsoft).

The event was in East downtown L.A to celebrate the alliance between Sanctiond and Mister Cartoon who "designed premium car care products to satisfy the unmet needs of those who share his lifestyle and passion for music, sports, fashion, and cars." “Music is as important to a car as its paint,” stated Cartoon. “My art, tattoos, and the way I design cars are all inspired by music." (street chopper mag)

There was a free In-N-Out burger food truck, open bar, DJ spinning, body painted girls dancing, and endless eye candy of beautifully luxury restored cars to browse (complete with hydraulics later in the night)...what else does a party need? ;) An interesting night for sure...
Oh YEAH...a rush of people surrounded Mr Cartoon of course to get pictures and interviews...I crept my way up the the front and when he looked at me I pointed at him flirtingly haha...was stoked he walked right over and he took a picture with me:)

PIERCED

I've been diggin' The Pierces (sisters Catherine and Allison) for awhile now. A friend of mine saw them live about 2 years ago and turned me onto their music. I hooked right away...but especially when“You’ll Be Mine”came out in 2011 which really gained the bands recognition.  They have a unique sound that's hard to find these days...not to mention are so stylish popping up all over fashion blogs like tumblr. They recently played SXSW in Austin TX and I hear (from Austin friends) had an amazing show. (See  sxsw street style post about how bummed I was to miss those festivities!) Anyway...if you aren't already a fan you might be after you hear the song below ~ total Stevie vibes :)
I think posting music videos here and there needs to be a regular thing :)

White on White

Pairing your favorite worn in white-T with a 'nicer' material silk jacket in the same color is never a bad idea...and if you have white sunglasses...why not add them to the mix?! Faded blue jeans and simple jewelry made this a laid back look...casually cool ya know ;)

The Wall

Images from a January photo shoot in downtown L.A. (see previous Under the Bridge post to get the back story!) ...and I'm loving the way this set came out. The colors of this particular 'look' worked so well against the red brick and plain concrete grey walls....having a strong and creative photographer really makes all the difference too! This was definitely my favorite styled outfit...I lean towards a bohemian/vintage vibe above all else...so just pile on feathers or turquoise and I'm happy :)

We Want the Funk

Friday night marked my first funk concert ever...how lucky did I get with the line-up below?! Not to mention having backstage access to everything...it's good to know people;) We showed up to the Studio City/Gibson Amphitheatre when the bands were still setting up and doing sound checks...which gave opportunity to hang with different band members and see what all
goes down before a big concert...
George Clinton of P-Funk (the innovator of funk music in the 70's in case you don't know!) closed the show and was of course the most anticipated performance of the night. I've never watched a show standing on the (back)stage...kind of gave me that little kid at Disneyland feeling:) P-Funk has such a crazy intense energy when they perform...it's pretty overstimulating to see 30+ all star band members up there singing and dancing, not to mention artists painting pictures and signs to the side stage, and one of the lead dudes doing handstands in his white pimp hat. Twas a funky night in L.A....
Backstage with Lakeside band member and vocalist Thomas Shelby (above)....right before they changed into their pirate costumes to perform...these guys were having such a blast on stage, totally choreographed dancing...jazz hands and all...so fun to watch:) We hit it off right away due to the love for each others shoes!
...and below are just some of the boys from P-Funk and The Big Ol' Nasty Getdown!

P-FUNK TIME.....
Yes, just going into George's dressing room to hang out after the show :) Loving his blue suit with the hat and fur coat...kind of dialed down from his previous days of colorful dreads, wigs and full on costume attire. He was super sweet and got a big smile when I told him how much I loved my first funk concert ever...
P-Funk and George Clinton style back in the day.....
"George Clinton's goal with each outfit choice is seemingly to be as innovative, colorful, larger than life, and of course as funky as can be.George never left his P-Funk style behind since he first broke out in the 70s. Throughout his career, George has collaborated with the likes of Tupac, Outkast, Prince, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and more, and continues to inspire artists of today like Snoop Dogg and MIA. Currently touring and working on an album with Sly Stone, George keeps going on – as does his wacky style."
