So awesome - the once a year highly anticipated Chanel Métiers d’Art runway show happened last night in my hometown of Dallas, TX! "Coco Chanel back in Dallas" is what the invitation read for this historic event ....divided into three parts! First, a “drive-in” screening of the short film The Return (written and directed by Chanel artistic director Karl Lagerfeld) in Fair Park’s Automobile Building. Lagerfeld arrived at the showing and climbed into a convertible with Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour - no big deal! The crowd then moved locations for the runway show....my favorite Native Texan supermodel Erin Wasson returned home to walk the runway of course:) Last there was the after-party. ..about 1,000 celebrities (actresses Dakota Fanning, Kristen Stewart and Lauren Hutton among them) top Chanel customers in Dallas and around the country, supermodels ...you know, all the 'important' people! The show is always held in a locale important to Chanel’s history, celebrating 11 couture workshops that Chanel has been buying since the 1980s. Pretty amazing that Dallas and Neiman Marcus headquarters were recognized this year - putting TX on the fashion scene map in a big way....
The event took place at Fair Park (the place I looked forward to every year of childhood for the annual TX State Fair!). Chanel turned an Art Deco exhibition into a barn for the night....hay scattered runway and all. The clothes in the Métiers collection are keyed geographically to that year’s location. The western style and Native American inspired outfits were right up my alley style wise....boots, western hats, feathers, fringe, denim...need I say more? The finale model wearing a floor length feather headdress was the perfect way to close this unique show....
Ending on a Lagerfeld quote :
“I love Dallas. I love Texans. They are the nicest of people,” Lagerfeld said. “Texas is wild, but I made it more romantic.” Well said Karl, well said....
Karl Lagerfeld has chosen Kristen Stewart to be the face of the upcoming campaign of the 2013/14 Métiers d'Art “Paris-Dallas” collection. |
