Memorial weekend was one of the most fun and memorable weekends I've had in a long time! Combined with celebrating my bestie's birthday, we went all out in a Texas kind of way. The best part was our late afternoon private horseback ride, followed by an intimate party in Topanga Canyon at our friend's gorgeous abode. The crew all got decked out in cowboy hats and boots of course, and enjoyed the freedom to roam more so than most trail rides allow. Getting a little trotting speed in the open fields and crossing the creek were my favorite moments - feeling like a true cowgirl (or even better, a character from Game of Thrones). We had such an awesome, solid group of people it gave the whole day and night a special energy and vibe. The bbq, the music studio jam out session, sitting under the stars by a chiminea all hours of the night and ending it in a hot tub watching the sun come up....rockstar times. Getting to spend the night in a room with open windows and waking up to nothing but surrounding mountains made me never want to leave....
So excited my custom vintage hat arrived today from Rodger Chieffalo ....my go-to hatter from Fort Worth, Texas! I had a mental picture of the type of hat I wanted...and Roger, like always, was able to come through with a hat even cooler than I imagined. It was interesting learning the provenance of the hat ~ "a vintage 1968 Peters Brothers cowboy hat. It is 80% beaver felt and was owned by a rancher from west of Abilene, Tx. The color is called "whiskey" and it was a premium priced color and rare. It is completely weatherproof - Don't ever worry about wearing it in rain, snow, sleet, hale, west Texas wind, Pacific El NiƱo, or Chateau Marmont. It can handle it all." That's my kinda hat...not that I need to worry about much weather out here in Los Angeles.
