The Inn at 410

Last weekend consisted of a couple mini road trips (I love road trips!)...one being Scottsdale AZ to Flagstaff where it snowed the week before :) I felt my checkered plaid shirt was appropriate for the pine tree forests and random truck stops we would be encountering...

I stayed at The Inn at 410 Bed&Breakfast in Flagstaff when I was 14 years old...a long time ago. Either the place changed it's decor since then, or I forgot how tacky it was! However, tacky kind of makes for part of the fun when you stay at random places like this on a road trip. The "Southwest" room really completed the feel with full on wallpaper, chili peppers, fake plants and native printed rugs & blankets. There was also a wooden ladder in the room and let's not forget about the jacuzzi tub - upgrade!
The lobby might have taken the cake for the tacky factor, but again, entertaining. The staff was super friendly, and thoughtful enough to leave hot apple cider out at all times with Brandy and Vodka bottles for their guests to mix. Very methodical, the more you drink, the less you care
about your surroundings!

Velvet Underground

With holidays and parties approaching, the biggest evening wear trend (along with sequins) is getting reacquainted with our long lost friend, Velvet. Fall runways were consistent showing velvet separates... I'm a little hesitant on crushed velvet, but then I just think of Stevie Nicks and Mick Jagger rocking the trend in the 70's and suddenly it all seems Ok :)
This is me above actually 'spinning' true Stevie style to Nightbird, in my friends velvet burnout wrap :)

(sidenote: Topshop has an awesome black velvet kimono I've had my eye on...just a matter of time before I crack. Check here for other velvet pieces!)

Black Friday

Black Friday=the day after Thanksgiving sales...which I avoid at all cost. Large crowds of people bumping into you unapologetically as they rush through clothing racks make me very claustrophobic and annoyed, which is not a good state of mind to be in while spending money.
So, this post is just about the simple unbeatable shade of black on black...designer pieces I wish I could afford any day of the year like Alexander Wang, Rag&Bone, DVF and more.
Good luck if you're out there in the madness today :)

(and last but not least, Robert Pattinson...can I buy him too?)

Postcards from AZ

Happy Thanksgiving, from Arizona!
I'm definitely thankful to be out of town, spending time with my family and having a change of scenery from LA. I'm spending turkey day in Scottsdale (getting my desert fix), then road tripping to the Grand Canyon tomorrow (because I can't believe I've never been before), followed by a day in snowy Flagstaff, and possibly another stop in magical Sedona as we head back south. I can't wait to hit the road and discover new places and inspirations ahead...

Desert Escape

I tend to get carried away when I pack for different (colder) weather. With all the decision making of what to take & what to leave behind, I had a glass of wine while packing to make the experience more enjoyable/less stressful.Yes, that sounds a bit neurotic. I had to bust out my fingerless gloves, hats, favorite flannel, cowboy boots and coziest sweaters for my mini Thanksgiving vacation ahead. Too bad I can't pack Anikan (my cat)... he gets very anxious when I leave town:/
Ok, how adorable is my mom for sending me these Texas fashion magazines?! Ever since I left for college, she has always sent me torn out articles in the mail, books, cards and other random/fun things. The fashion stuff though is most endearing to me...she tries to stay current in Dallas :)
Running off into nowhere is so appealing...
