Day of the Dead

Happy Halloween!
I'm planning to continue the weekend celebration tonight, even though the weekend was when most festivities were happening. I had so much fun being in Day of the Dead (aka sugar face/skull face) character Saturday night...although trying not to smile all night is harder than it sounds.
Tonight I will have to be something different!
 MAKEUP FUN!!!
I wasn't sure what to be this year, but knew I wanted to do elaborate makeup with whatever I ended up as. Day of the Dead came to mind and was something I'd always wanted to try...so when I found this perfect crochet black knit vintage dress out halloween shopping, I was sold. It took about an hour to do the makeup - tough part was just deciding what to do...there are so many options/colors/designs for makeup with this costume! I wanted it to be scary but beautiful, so I made sure to stay away from a completely black eye and add red, gold and jewels to lighten.
Here is the photo journal of my night, (getting ready is always the most fun) including my friends the Ice Queen, Roller Girl, Hooters prego WT, the Witch, her dog, and Donatella Versace herself!

Being Someone Else

Happy Friday...Halloween weekend is here!
I still feel like a child this time of year with costume decisions, parties, pumpkin carving, you name it...I get excited. It was my favorite as a kid... and no matter how hard I tried, my big brother always got more candy than I did trick or treating :( He would grin as he counted, knowing he would 'win.'

Anyway, I might be wearing a wig with my costume (otherwise spraying my hair a different color)...it's the closest I ever come to completely changing me long banged hair for something new.
Who or what will you be?

Print Crazy

Here is my latest kimono-like floral print purchase that I can't stop throwing over everything I wear. When I layer it with sweaters over, it sort of has a scarf effect. I've worn it with a sweater under it as well, and that somehow works too. Usually I just throw it over a vintage T-shirt to spice up a casual relaxed look. This is a good piece to wear into winter even though it's light weight...I found it at a random boutique on Melrose, but Urban Outfitters has a similar one I really like HERE!
Speaking of Urban Outfitters, I stopped by there Sunday and snagged these snakeskin slippers that I just had to have for some reason. I'm really not a 'slipper' type of girl, but I thought with skinny leather pants or a black pencil skirt, they could be kind of badass. It is also a hot Fall trend.
The striped sweater is another addition to my cropped knit collection I keep gathering for Fall 2011.
I just can't get enough.

Faconnable

This past weekend I worked alongside The Agency Arizona in coordinating a fashion show presented by Faconnable, South Coast Plaza in Newport Beach.  I was backstage (actually, it was a tent) the majority of the time assisting the event coordinator. We started off with a practice run for the models... letting them get comfortable with walking the narrow 'pier' of a catwalk along the bay. Also important to get the timing right between models walking. After that I prepped the volunteer dressers, answered any questions the Faconnable clients had who were also in the tent to handle styling...and most importantly, called the model lineup from the cue of my headset partner/coordinator who had a direct view of the runway. I love the energy before a show...and the excitement when it's over and you know it went well!
Allison & I (my partner in crime who coordinated the event from The Agency AZ)
These hair and makeup artists really made it work considering the bad lighting conditions, lack of outlets, and muggy/damp/humid Newport harbor weather that makes it very difficult to hold curls. They were super calm and organized, and gave the models a natural feminine look.
(hairdesignsbyashley -coming soon!)
(below: I took a pic with the dressers...all volunteers from FIDM who are eager to gain industry experience and be a part of a great event like this -they did a great job!
Yep....that's the 'runway'.....I would've been a bit nervous too as a model, but, it is much more intimidating at this dead-on glance than it actually was....see below...
SHOW TIME! This was my final 'station'....calling the models from the tent, timing it and sending them down the runway. The only model picture I got (which isn't very good/clear!) was the finale which closes the show as all the models line up together on the runway and clap as they strike one last pose ;)  During the show I was a little-too-busy to be taking any pictures!
Did I mentioned how COLD it was being on that water at night?! Freezing.
FINALE....like I said, the best/only show picture I could get :/
The show was a success and thankfully none of the models fell into the bay :)
We packed up the clothing fast and were out of there...
