The Bag Within the Bag...

There was something exciting about the process of opening not only the shopping bag of my recent purchase, but the handbag cover as well.... encasing my new Italian leather Sissi Rossi hobo, packed safely within :) I love the simplicity of this bag, and the fact that I can carry it across my chest as a messenger for a casual/everyday look. I'm not into 'flashy' designer handbags, logos or monograms....so this classic, timeless, slouchy black leather discovery kind of hit home for me. Sissi Rossi creates elegant bags which are luxurious, but at the same time practical and functional - a "second skin" for the women wearing them....which is exactly what this bag has become for me!

Die Posers Die

Last Friday night was pretty cool...iconic Dog Town skateboarder and original Z-Boys member Tony Alva hosted the third installment of the annual "Die Posers Die" art show. The event was held at Alva Skates (the first company ever run and owned by a skateboarder – fun fact J)…sponsored by Alva Skates, Vans and LA Weekly. For the past 5 years Alva and business partner artist Richard Villa III have been presenting art, skateboarding and music at Exhibit A Gallery between Hollywood and Venice…an eclectic crowd mix of rockers, surfers and skaters that are all fitting to Alva's aesthetic.
Separating it from other openings, the "Die Posers Die" art show displayed work that is exclusively created by skateboarders. It was so awesome to meet legendary skateboarders like (Tony Alva),  Steve Caballero and Christian Hosoi  (my bf bought a piece of his art - check out the skateboard hanging below)…I was hoping to meet Jay Adams but he didn’t end up coming L Tony however was such a nice guy and took time to talk and take pictures with anyone who approached him. He asked me where I was from and somehow we ended up talking about Tony's favorite skateboarding spots in Texas...

Dream Collective & JM Dry Goods

This past Saturday night, my friends and I attended the pop-up opening of an amazing (newly discovered) line JM Dry Goods, hosted by the Dream Collective boutique in trendy Silverlake. My friend (stylist and consultant) Margaret of The Sche Report recently traveled to Austin Texas on an inspirational journey where she visited the JM Dry Goods store and met owner, Michelle Teague. The store is filled entirely with handcrafted goods that Michelle collected throughout her travels to Mexico - endless inspiration! Each item is special and has a story, as they were collected from various local artisans met along the way (handmade shoes, rugs, hanging textiles and clothing to name a few). So, as luck would have it, Margaret was informed that Michelle was actually headed West for what turned out to be this exciting pop up we got to attend! Not to worry those of you in LA...it will be on display at Dream Collective through the month of December.
