Somewhere Down in Texas

After my 14 day holiday 'tour' of Texas I'm finally feeling back to normal. I covered ground from Dallas to Austin to San Marcos to San Antonio, (with a final end stretch in Arizona)....and caught up with just about every old friend and family member along the way! The unexpected snowfall in Dallas on Christmas Day was one of my favorite moments...not to mention just hanging with my mom, riding horses at the family farm, hugging our huge golden retriever, shooting pool in dive bars, country fields, seeing my best friends from highschool AND college, shopping on South Congress in Austin, hearing live music, happy hour on Rainey Street, eating good BBQ and Tex-Mex, meeting my best friends new baby, getting cozy by a fire, and too much wine on NYE! Miss TX already....

Hello, Lover

My Jeffery Campell Robinson booties have FINALLY arrived!! Seriously, I have been trying to get these since October. The first online store I found them on was sold out and  on backorder....I was on hold for them...and then there was a problem with the order and they never arrived. The rep of that particular online store was nice enough to find them for me elsewhere....as they JUST became available again!
I'm obsessed with the pointy toe cowboy-ish look, while the leather cross weave stitch keeps them chic, edgy and modern. I think I can wear these with pretty much everything. The heel is a perfect 3 inches to keep my comfortable and fitting for day or night. Super easy with no zippers or laces to just slip on and run out the door :)

Feathers

My favorite shop on South Congress street, during my trip to Austin, was hands down Feathers Boutique. A friend of mine who knows the owner told me I HAD to go in there if I was in the area...so glad I did! I was pretty overstimulated by the vintage merchandise that was so my style...and the displays themselves were pretty inspiring as well. I realized upon walking in that I was going to need some serious time here. I introduced myself to the owner, Emily, and learned that she had just returned from Sante Fe where she did a ton of shopping for the boutique. Turquoise heaven. Aside from the vintage madness, Feathers also carries lines like Adina Mills, (still love my ring!!) Heyoka Leather (and these!!), and Pamela Love...
...just to name a few favorites :)

It was really cool seeing the Heyoka Leather line I love so much on display! Owner Leslie Crow also lives in Austin..

And finally....my best purchase of the year! For 2 months I have been searching for a cool velvet maxi dress and have had an impossible time. I saw this baby below displayed behind the front desk at Feathers just as I was walking out the door. I was with friends and in a rush to leave...so, I said I'd come back the next morning for it and hopefully it would still be there. IT WAS! Velvet 70's maxi....fit me like a glove and now it's hanging right where it should in LA :) Can't wait to wear!

Camo on the Farm

My vintage camo jacket was exactly what I needed back in Dallas over the holidays....especially during an afternoon trip to my family's farm house. Between the horses and the dog, it's not the type of place where you can be afraid to get your hands dirty. This jacket and it's longer length not only kept me warm, but also kept me from being paranoid about ruining my clothes. Regardless of doing any hunting (not a fan), Camo just kinda makes you feel a little tougher. And, if you wear it in the country you're almost guaranteed to somewhat blend in with the locals. Camouflage or plaid is pretty much always a safe bet, y'all....

South Congress ATX

I could spend day after day strolling up and down South Congress in Austin TX...my old stomping grounds, post-college. It had been 4 years since my last visit...so I figured while I was home in Dallas for the holidays, I would stop by ATX a few days and get my fix. The city has grown so much in my absence, but has somehow remained kind of the same, if that makes sense. All of the old restaurants and live music venues I knew are still there...and South Congress is still the trendy spot to eat/drink/shop etc... just more variety to choose from these days. I met up with one of my college pals (more like a sister) and hit our favorites on 'so-co'...street vendors selling jewelry, musicians playing guitars on the sidewalk, pit stopping for queso, browsing the boutiques, and my all time fave....afternoon beers at Hotel San Jose. Right when I saw they were $3, I knew I definitely wasn't in LA anymore....oh how I miss those days :/

Denim on denim seemed the way to go for this casual day in Austin....with my Dr Marten boots that are officially broken in. It got so cold as the sun went down that I layered on my new (faux) fur vintage jacket with an over-sized scarf. I felt bad my friend was freezing and let her wear my beanie...

Missing Austin already!!

GRACE

One of my few Christmas presents to myself....Grace Coddington's memoir I've been dying to read but haven't yet had the chance due to heavy holiday traveling. Now that I'm home and unpacked, tomorrow morning is dedicated to staying in bed and making a dent in this book that everyone (in my world at least) has been raving about. How could the life of 'Grace' and her staple orange hair not be interesting....from her modeling career to climbing the ladder on the business end, Vogue alongside Anna Wintour...it's bound to be an entertaining and intriguing read.
So glad to be back home and relax for a day!
